We flew over the volcanic eruption on Fimmvörðuháls in Iceland last Sunday the 4th of April. Circled around the area in a Cessna Skyhawk and took these photos out of the open window of the airplane in the freezing temperature.

The volcanic eruption began on the 21st of March 2010. The eruption is located on the popular hiking route Fimmvörðuháls, east of Eyjafjallajökull glacier. The ongoing eruption has become a huge tourist attraction with people from all over the world visiting the location by way of driving huge SUV’s over the glacier, hiking, snowmobiles and flying by helicopters and airplanes above. The popular TV show Top Gear even filmed a segment on the location a couple of days ago.
Molten lava from the volcano’s vent flows into nearby gorges, Hvannárgil and Hrunagil, creating a magnificent lava-”waterfall”.
