RFF – Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2010

RFF - Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2010

Reykjavik Fashion Festival was held the past weekend (March 18-21st) for the first time. The purpose of the event was to showcase the work of the many talented fashion designers in Iceland.

Because of the limited size of the venue at the O. Johnson & Kaaber building in Reykjavik the admission was limited to about 300 invited guests. I was one of them.

The designers / brands that showcased their work at the O. Johnson & Kaaber building were: Andersen & Lauth, Áróra, Birna, Blik, E-label, ELM Design, Emami, Farmers Market, Go With Jan, GuSt, Hildur Yeoman, Kalda, Lúka, Mundi, Nikita, Royal Extreme, Skaparinn, Sonja Bent, Spaks mannsspjarir, Sruli Recht, Thelma Björk.

A music event was held alongside the Festival where some Icelandic and international acts performed. Berndsen and Oculus performed on Thursday the 18th. GusGus, Retro Stefson, Air France and Jungle Fiction on Friday the 19th, and Peaches, Ladytron, Bloodgroup, Sykur and Captain Fufanu on Saturday the 20th.

As far as a critique on the designs displayed at RFF I must admit that I’m no fashion critic. My talent lies first and foremost with using the camera. So I will let my images speak for me.

On the whole I enjoyed the event very much. The organization of the event was excellent and highly professional in nature, all from the stage setup, the music and to the lighting etc. . The fashion display was an absoulute joy to watch.

Perhaps the only negative I can think of is how small the building chosen for the event was and therefore that only a limited amount of invited people were allowed to attend. I have no doubt that Reykjavik Fashion Festival will return next year at a bigger venue so many more people can enjoy the creativity of the Icelandic fashion industry. Looking forward to see you next year!
